Company Members' Pledge of Honor, Courtesy and Safety
The oath is usually administered by the Captain of the Bowmen (but may be administered by another appropriate person with the Captain’s permission) in the presence of other members of the Company. The new member agrees to each paragraph as the pledge is read by giving some word(s) of assent.
- Do you pledge that you will use your skill with the bow to bring
Carolingia honor and to aid in her defense?
- Do you pledge that you will observe all rules of archery safety, that
you will never use your bow in a careless or dangerous manner, and
that you will never knowingly imperil person or property by misuse of
your weapons?
- Do you pledge that you will obey the orders of your officers in so far
as safety and honor allow, and that you will show all fellow bowmen
the courtesy and respect they deserve?
- Do you fully understand that if this pledge is broken in any way, you
may be removed from the Company immediately and without compensation?
The Captain then welcomes the new member into the Company and gives him/her a baldric.
